Characters are an essential part of role playing, and are the catalyst for how we express ourselves and interact with the narrative and the world laid before us. A good character is what can make or break a thread, and great characters stick in the minds of all for years to come. They are the foundation that Roleplay is based around; without a character there is no story. This guideline is going to show you how to bring your great creations into our world.

To begin the process of creating your character, you'll need to take the application at the very bottom of the page titled "Character Template". Copy-Paste that into a new post in the Character Registry Section, and fill it out in its entirety, following it's instructions. We recommend you do this either after reading this post, or at least following along with this post, as you go. However if you still can't figure it out, don't hesitate to ask a moderator for help, or even ask someone on-site via PM, or ask in the Discord. Once you've finished your application and are satisfied with your work, post it in the Tech Team Modding Requests, and it should be checked shortly thereafter. Be patient though, as mods generally have busy lives, and their work is volunteer.

Your first stumbling block on the application, unless you're a veteran member or read some of the other rules first, is likely to be the Status, Location, and Reputation parts under the "General Information" section of your application. While to some these choices may seem pretty straightforward, and they are for the most part, they are important choices which will determine where your character begins their journey from, and lets other characters know where your allegiances lie. At least on the surface.

Status. The first and arguably most important of these choices. Status determines your starting role within society and is awarded certain benefits, and some have certain negatives, depending on which status you chose. To Claim your starting reward post in the Administration Request Thread With what stats your claiming (9 for Students/Civilians, 18 for Heroes Vigiliantes and Villians) what status you claimed, and linking your approved character sheet.
Starting Benefits:

Now Reputation, out of these three things, you'll likely be more focused on your Reputation more than your Status or Starting Location. Your Reputation is something that grows with you, and shall affect you, even long after you've created your character. You can learn more about how to gain it over in the Thread Etiquette & Guidelines. However as for what it means, it's used as a general grading scale for how well known you are as a hero, villain, or even as a salesman.

As a General Rule:
25 Reputation = Community Known (This is people that would know of and keep track of local Villains or Heroes)
75 Reputation = City Known
150 Reputation = Regionally Known
250 Reputation = Known Country-Wide
500 Reputation = Globally Known

Your total Reputation is equal to all of your reputation (Heroic, Villainous, and General) combined, however public opinion of you is based upon the recency and quantity of each of your reputations and their gains. For example: If you have 180 Heroic Reputation, but recently committed a mass murder - which added a villainous reputation of 80. Even though in this example your villainous reputation is much less than your heroic reputation, you'll still likely be viewed as a Villain due to your recent act. While some of your more grander heroic acts aren't likely to be forgotten, they are likely to now be viewed as self interested or for monetary gain and not for the purpose of saving someone. They may also be viewed as an act from a time before you fell and became an evil that plagues this world. Likewise if you're a villain who's recently saved a lot of people and has done a few good deeds, you might be publicly viewed as someone who's on the path to redemption, even if your current heroic reputation doesn't outnumber your villainous.

Bounty is the fourth type of reputation and is a measure of how much you are currently wanted by the law. While you have a bounty you are constantly at risk of being taken in by a hero, or even a vigilante who just wants to see some justice. For those heroes who manage to turn you in, your bounty is worth a reward equal to 10x whatever your current bounty is. How bounty is gained and the risk it puts you at can also be found Thread Etiquette & Guidelines

Now while fame and glory may seem like there's a bit of downsides and no benefits, that's simply because the benefits aren't quite as overt. In addition to getting your name in lights if you make the Top 5 of one of your respective categories, you'll also be asked first hand to participate in matters of great importance (The Higher your Reputation the more likely you'll be invited to site plots, and be able to participate in some of the grander events that fall into that plot, or maybe even spearhead it.) In addition to potential site-wide plot influence, you're likely to receive rewards based on your services, and any number of things that might involve how well known your name is, or the people you've helped or hurt.

The final thing to touch on, is your location, and this simply means the location in which you start out at. You can choose any one of the Regions that are directly under a country to begin your adventure. It's recommended to start near your school if you're a student, or your place of employment if you're beginning as an adult. However it's not against the rules to place yourself outside of the immediate vicinity of your school or workplace, you're allowed to start wherever you want. The reason it's not recommend is because traveling from region or region, or country to country requires a travel thread. The rules of which can found under the Thread Etiquette & Guidelines

Traits are the next step in your character creation process that directly involve the site's rules. Traits are your ability to make your character unique and stand out of the crowd. Loosely put, traits are the power to modify existing things and change them in almost anyway possible. To give an example, say one's quirk exclusively allows them to breath fire. By spending trait points the user can modify their quirk and body to create vents on their hands that allow them to "breathe" the fire through their hands. One might also spend trait points to allow them to shoot the fire out of their eyes instead. The user can use trait points to give themselves talons instead of feet as well which allow them to slash their opponent with their kicks. Trait points can be used on just about anything, and the sky and your own imagination are the limits with them.

Traits are applied for on your character application and will be looked at when you apply for your character. Traits are payed for using Trait points (TP). You get five to start with, however you can earn more. You earn 3 Trait points every time you rank up your Control, and you earn 2 trait points for every 50 reputation you earn, excluding bounty. And others may be given out as event rewards or on special occasions. How much traits costs depends on the trait, and how strong the mod believes it to be. The stronger the trait the more TP it will cost, although some might be too strong to even be allowed, but as with all traits, they are handled on a case by case basis. Now if your trait costs more than you would like it to, feel free to decrease it's power, as you are always allowed to upgrade your traits into more powerful versions later down the line, assuming you have the TP to pay for it. When you have earned yourself some extra TP, you'll need to get your character sheet unlocked so you can apply for the new/upgraded traits, and then get it reapproved. You can apply for the traits via the template located at the bottom of the post titled "Traits Template".  Alternatively you can hold on to your traits points for however long you like. No one's gonna force you to spend them.

It's important to note that traits can not be directly used on a quirk to erase it's own drawbacks. If a trait would do that, the trait must also impose new drawbacks for the quirk.

The quirk part of your application is pretty basic. First you either need to roll for or claim an unused Quirk, and then fill out the details within the application for your Quirk. You need to use an approved quirk, and you need to provide proof of roll, but as for the process of putting your Quirk into the application that much is fairly simple. If you need to re-familiarize yourself with the rules on Quirks, or find out how to roll for, or claim a Quirk you can check out the Quirk Guidelines

With this all done, you're basically done with your character sheet, assuming you've filled out all the other areas which are yours to be creative with. It's now a matter of waiting for your character sheet to be Approved. While you're waiting however, you may want to work on your Thread Tracker. A Thread Tracker is where you keep track of all of your threads, experience, and reputation in an ongoing thread. It's required that you not only keep links to any thread in which you have been given exp, reputation, cash, or items in which you are claiming those rewards. You are only allowed to use things within threads after the graded and approved thread is listed in your thread tracker. If you are found to be falsifying any information within this thread, expect to at the bare minimum lose whatever was falsified and further punishment will be handed out on a case by case basis, largely dependent on whether it seems likely the falsification was intentional or not. However, know that a permanent ban is not out of the question for a first time offense.

You're free to organize this thread in anyway you see fit. If you'd like some assistance however, a template will be pinned Information Database, which is also were you should place your database. Once you have your Thread Tracker finished, place it in your signature so that way it and all your information is easily accessible. This is not only for the mods, but for people who may wish to roleplay with you or learn about the threads your character has been in.
